This chapter contains information about issues concerning upgradingyour iFIX version.NOTE: Direct upgrades from iFIX 3.5 to the latest version of iFIX are not supported. To upgrade iFIX in this case, upgrade to 5.8 first and then upgrade to the latest version of iFIX. The Database and the UpgradeBe aware that when you upgrade to the current version of iFIX, the filesize of your process database file will increase.Also, when you upgrade your database, the high and low engineering units(EGU) fields are converted from single precision to double precision floats.What that means, is that the degree of accuracy (the Epsilon value) changesfrom +/0.00000012to +/0.0000022. If you are using extreme ranges (very largeor very low values) for your EGU limits, you may possibly experience issuesafter an upgrade. To resolve these issues, open the Database Manager,export your database and then re-import it. This procedure resets theblock values.
SCADASync.ini File and the UpgradeBe aware that during the upgrade, as part of the updated Enhanced Failoverfunctionality, the existing SCADASync.ini file will be overwritten.This happens so that the SCADASync.ini will be updated to include thenew Maintenance Mode parameters. DDA Drivers and the UpgradeIf you are using DDA drivers, such as ROC, BR3 or MBR, you must reinstallthem after upgrade. If the driver installation files are unavailable,you can use a copy of your existing FIX.INI file to compare to the onecreated after the upgrade. Then, copy the missing lines from your oldFIX.INI file to your new FIX.INI file. Before You UpgradeBefore you upgrade your version of iFIX make sure you:. Shut down all GEapplications. It is important that no GE products are running whenyou run the iFIX installation program.
Save copies of yourexisting.INI files with your application preferences and any custom filesyou create. Customized files, such as.Res.dll files, and some.INI filesmay be overwritten during an upgrade. As such, you may need to integrateyour custom changes into the newer versions of these files after you upgrade.

You must install thenewer version of iFIX over your existing iFIX configuration. Your toolkitapplication will not run if you uninstall your previous version of iFIX. Be sure to obtainany toolkit updates that you need, prior to installing iFIX. For instance,if you have previously installed the iFIX Productivity Pack for AllenBradley, you must get the updated version prior to upgrading iFIX.

Log in to Windowswith Administrator privileges. If you intend to use iFIX as aservice in conjunction with a GE driver, make sure you use the same administratoraccount to install and register each program as a service.
Ensure that thereare no iFIX, FIX, GE, or Proficy processes running, and close any other programsthat are running. Insert the iFIX DVDinto your DVD-ROM drive. The iFIX installation screen appears.NOTE:If this screen does not automatically appear, double-click the InstallFrontEnd.exefile on the DVD to display it.
Click the 'InstalliFIX' link. A message box appears asking you to confirm the install. Click Yes to continue.The install program starts and the Welcome screen appears. Click Next to continue.The license agreement screen appears. Click 'I acceptthe terms of the license agreement' if you want to continue, andthen click Next.A message box appears indicating that aprevious version of iFIX has been detected.
Click Yesto upgrade.CAUTION:If you select No to this message, you can no longer run the older versionof iFIX. By default, iFIX installs to the C:Program Files (x86)GEiFIX folder instead. THISIS NO LONGER AN UPGRADE. Use caution in copying files from your previousiFIX release, into your new iFIX install folder.The Setup Type screen appears.
Select Complete andthen click Next. If you selected Custom instead, you will be promptedlater to select your install features. The Ready to Install Program screenappears. Click Install.
Theprogress of the installation displays on screen as the files are copied.After a few moments, a message box appears asking if you would like toreview the release notes. Click Yes to viewthe release notes. Close the release notes after you finish reviewingthem to resume the install. The Setup Complete dialog box appears. Click Yes to restartyour computer now, or No to do it later. Click Finish.NOTE:Be sure to restart your computer before starting iFIX.
