I have the S8 along with the Otterbox Defender case. I purchased the Otterbox Alpha Glass Screen Protector that is allegedly compatible with the Defender case. There were problems with the first Alpha Glass protector in that VERY hard presses were having to be made to use the S8 screen. I contacted Otterbox who replaced the Alpha Glass protector.

Most glass screen protectors go down all the way to the home button. The Defender goes above the home button. You'd have to find a modified version of glass most likely, not sure if they make those. If you can find a glass screen protector that is smaller than the actual screen size, then that might work. The case fits perfectly around the screen, so the glass would have to be smaller. I have had the Defender case for two years on my 6+ and I understand why you don't like the built-in version.

I think it would be possible to remove the rubber protector. I removed the rubber over the thumb protector on mine.
